GardenArt Project – Part of Professional Development Tour

2013-09-26 Nanshan Tour - Group 001

Thursday, September 26, 2013 was a special day for GardenArt. GardenArt’s commercial landscape design and installation at Nanshan America AAT in Lafayette was selected as one of the sites on a professional development tour for landscape professionals and educators. (Coincidentally, it was also National Teach Ag Day.)

2013-09-26 Nanshan Tour 012

The annual bus tour is sponsored by Spence Restoration Nursery (Muncie, Indiana) who supplied GardenArt with all of the plants for this project. This year’s bus tour was titled Native Plant Communities in the Commercial Landscape and featured all new sites with a strong focus on maintenance of plant communities in storm water practices. The tour group visited Nanshan America AAT which was designed, installed and is maintained by GardenArt.

The Nanshan America AAT project is unique in many ways for GardenArt. The first unique aspect of this project is the scope, size and time table which sets it apart from most other GardenArt projects. GardenArt created an overall landscape design for Nanshan that covers more than 50 acres and has been implemented in phases. The project includes several large and mature trees — some 20 years old and measuring 20 to 30 feet tall (8 inch caliper). Second, the GardenArt design for Nanshan includes a pond that enhances the landscape of the entire area and greets guests at the entrance of their property. Finally, the pond area introduces native plant species as well as a fountain. GardenArt worked with Nanshan’s Development Team, Link Management, Spence Restoration Nursery, and several other trades to create the overall appearance of the entire Nanshan property in Lafayette.

Sean Sullivan from GardenArt was on-site as a resource to the landscape professionals and the staff from Spence Restoration Nursery. The tour participants were excited about this hands-on opportunity to see a successful commercial landscape and engaged Sean in a lively discussion about the design, installation and maintenance of the site. The tour participants were complimentary of the GardenArt project and offered many positive comments.

The bus tour also visited Ivy Tech Community College – Lafayette, a savanna restoration installed this spring at the Cary Home, rain gardens installed this spring at the Wabash Center, and several sites at Purdue University – West Lafayette. Kevin Tungsevick from Spence Restoration Nursery led the day-long professional development tour. GardenArt is honored to have been a part of this prestigious event.

Nanshan – Plants Establish and Mature

2013-06-06 Nanshan Fountain - Roses 036 (3)

The GardenArt crew has been hard at work implementing the next phase of the landscape design created exclusively for Nanshan America AAT, Lafayette, Indiana. This project is unique in many ways for GardenArt. First, the scope, size and time table sets it apart from most other projects. Nanshan America like most successful international companies demands from its partners – quality, attention to detail, and integrity – and they not only trust GardenArt with this highly visible project but also requested continued maintenance.

Like all new landscaping installations, it takes 12 to 18 months to see the plants establish and mature. On a recent visit to the Nanshan property, the native plants, grasses, and flowers look brilliant – just like GardenArt had planned. Check out these impressive photos of the rose garden at one of the entrances, the plants at the entrance and plant sign, and the landscape around the pond.
